Our Cologne Trip in Review

Hi guys!!!

I want to first start off by thanking my SWEET friends & family for being so supportive after finding out about my blog! Lol I didn’t know how low key I was going to keep this, but the secret is out and we are doing this thang. I love you all! Thank you x a million!!!

My big 25 birthday was last Wednesday and Rob went above and beyond to make sure I had the best birthday yet. It was different being away from loved ones, but I really couldn’t have asked for more. I am so lucky to be living this new adventure filled life! We pretty much celebrated from Wednesday until Sunday. Thankful my boyf knows bdays are meant to be a weeklong thing.

On Friday went were off to spend the day in Cologne, Germany and visit all the different Christkindlmarkets. We took a 20 minute tram ride from Düsseldorf to the Köln Hbf (Cologne Central Station). I might add that the train is so freaking cute, clean and comfy! I was not expecting that at all. That was definitely the first of many tram rides for us! As soon as we stepped out of the station, we were mesmerized by the beautiful Cologne Cathedral.

We toured the Cathedral and it was a really special time. The architecture was absolutely beautiful. It was amazing to see the stained glass and all of the different statues that was spread throughout the church. This is definitely a must see when planning a trip to Cologne! After we left the Cathedral, we were just a few steps away from the Cologne Cathedral Christmas Market. This was probably my favorite market of the three we visited! It seemed to be the largest and had such a fun vibe to it. Not to mention the Cologne Cathedral is the Christmas Market’s backdrop. The most beautiful view you guys!! Rob and I enjoyed way too much Currywurst, Crepes, Kartoffelpuffer (I’d compare this to a more delicious XL hash brown), and Glühwein. Glühwein is a STAPLE when visiting German christkindlmarkets! It is essentially hot red wine that's extra sweet and keeps you nice and toasty for those chilly winter evenings. Not to mention it is served in the cutest mugs that you can keep or turn in after you’re finished for your deposit back. I went home with two of course!
The next Christmas Market we visited the Angel’s Market. I got the least amount of photos at this market but believe me when I say it was GOREGOUS! It was like walking around in a fairytale. There were people dressed up as angels in white and walking around covered in sparkling glitter. There were big stars hanging above you as you walk around. The food was just as amazing here as well.
After our trip to Cologne, it is safe to say we ate and drank our weight at the Christmas Markets! We will absolutely be making another trip back before the Christmas season is over. I highly, highly recommend planning a trip to Europe in the winter time just to experience the Christkindlmarkets here, it is such a festive time.

Cheers!
Tor

  5. t's so fun to "hear" about your adventures. When you come back you'll say "it was a blast" but you don't share all the details. Now, I can "hear" all the details as they are happening! Thank you!
